Description: Up for auction is this Yonkers, New York, Charter #13319, $10.00 1929 Type-1 Small Size National, Fr. #1801-1, with treasury signatures of Edward E. Jones as Register of the Treasury and Walter O. Woods as Treasurer of The United States. The cashier of this bank is Harry A. Merritt and the President of the bank is Charles A. Valentine. This bank chartered on May of 1929 as “Central National Bank of Yonkers, New York”. The bank issued 165,871 small size Nationals, from May 1929 thru May of 1935 when F.D.R. shut down the National Currency system. Yonkers had a total of four Currency issuing National Banks. One of those banks failed before 1929! Three of the 4 banks survived long enough to issue Series 1929 small size National Banknote Currency. This bank was right in the middle of those three banks that did survive long enough to issue small size National Banknotes as far as surviving notes are concerned. The note is cut close along the bottom margin on the obverse. There is some light dirt and soil on the note from years of circulation, but there is still a respectable amount of remaining brightness to the note. I do not see any rips, tears, splits or pinholes in the note. I would grade this note as a solid Very Fine. Please look at the scans carefully and judge the grade and quality of this note for yourself before bidding. The Kelly Census shows 39 small size notes reported on this bank. There are 8 - $5.00 Type-1’s, 8 - $10.00 Type-1’s, 11 - $20.00 Type-1’s, 7 - $5.00 Type - 2’s and 5- $10.00 Type-2’s. This note is new to the census, the new owner can report this note, if they so choose. This note would make a fine addition to any New York State banknote collection. The bank was located in highly collected Westchester County, so it should appeal to those collecting that County and its surrounding areas. Don’t let this note get away!
