Description: Manufacturer: Bayonet made by RIA (Rock Island Arsenal bayonets are uncommon and were only manufactured as M1905 16" bayonets) Year of Manufacture: Circa 1911 (modified for use in WWII) Model: M1 Bayonet (used with M1903 Springfield and M1Garand) Markings: The ricasso is marked “RIA 1911 with a flaming bomb. OAL Dimensions: Approximately 14 1/4" Blade Length: 9 3/4" Offered here is a WWII M1 Garand and M1903 bolt action rifle M1905E1(Cut-Down M1905) fighting/combat/knife/bayonet. Original M1905 bayonets were made with a 16" blade during WWI. Strategies changed when the WWII rolled around and military advisors required M1905 bayonets to be shortened to 10". After WWII began, M1905 bayonets were cut down to the required 10", and subsequently, the M1905E1 (cut-down version) was then designated the M1 bayonet. This is a cut-down knife bayonet with a spear-point tip modified by American Fork and Hoe. This one has a Rock Island Arsenal RIA/Ordnance Bomb marking on the ricasso and a 1911 date. This particular bayonet served in two World Wars. Quite a bit of history here. The steel blade and tip are semi-sharp, showing little use, the metal shows scattered scuffs and scratches. The two piece serrated plastic grips show moderate wear, with scattered light scrapes, small compressions and scratch marks. This bayonet is in Very Good overall condition. Please see the photographs for a better understanding of the condition.
