Description: A fabulous wee example of a WW-II eraRoyal Navy HMS HoodShip's Company Member's Naval 'Trench Art' Capfeaturing a 1.5"shell base, a Naval tunic buttonand two Pennies, one clearly dated 1939and with the name HOOD punched in the centre of the Penny on the cap's top. Commissioned in 1920,Battlecruiser HMS Hood'sSecond World War service began in earnest when in May 1941 she was ordered, in company withThe Prince of Wales,to intercept the Kriegsmarine Battleship Bismarck & Battlecruiser Prinz Eugen. However just a few days later in the early days of The Battle of The Denmark StraitHood was badly hit, exploded and within just three minutes sunktaking all but 3 of her crew of 1,418 to the depths. A tragic loss and one of Britain's worst naval disasters at sea, HMS Hood wouldnevertheless live on in everybody's minds as an iconic British warship to this day..! Measuring some 1.5" across and 1.5" at its highest point, this lovely cracking item is an evocative reminderof the awful war-time loss of that proud ship & its crew.
