Description: 100% authentic and original. Super rare Hugo Sanchez Mexico Coca Cola cup promoting FIFA 1986 World Cup in Mexico. Purchased at the World Cup by my father. Cup has a lot of wear tear. Blemish on one side. Also faded. It has also lost its round form. My dad attended the World Cup tournament that year and he says what he remembers is the English hooligans getting in trouble because they were taking baths in the various fountains in Monterrey Mexico. Our family hailed from that area and the World Cup was a big deal. The cup is Made by Samsonite. Made in Mexico. After Mexico failed to qualify for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain, Sánchez was a part of the Mexico team that reached the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup on home soil, losing out to eventual runners-up West Germany in a penalty shootout. He scored his only World Cup goal during his nation's opening match of the tournament on 3 June, the winning goal in a 2–1 victory over Belgium, although he also missed a penalty in Mexico's second group match against Paraguay, and was later booked, causing him to miss the final group match. The 1986 FIFA World Cup was the 13th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams. It was played in Mexico from 31 May to 29 June 1986. The tournament was the second to feature a 24-team format. Colombia had been originally chosen to host the competition by FIFA but, largely due to economic reasons, was not able to do so, and resigned in November 1982. Mexico was selected as the new host in May 1983, and became the first country to host the World Cup more than once, after previously hosting the 1970 edition.
