Description: Super cool freak show banner. Hand painted on canvas. Measuring 72" inches tall by 107" inches wide. It was found hanging up in a barn in rural North Carolina. Three sides are hemmed, but the left side is not. It is in my opinion, that this was the right side of a much longer banner, with whatever was to the left of it that was cut off, would have had the description for whatever this creepy freak face was representing. So unfortunately, there's not context, nor a signature from the artist. I have no idea whether or not this was part of a real circus from long ago, or if it was just a cool work of art. The back side of the canvas is a soft feeling backing. It's not a rugged industrial canvas, so I'm not sure what that means or if it's any clue to the age. The canvas has an aged patina to it, with some water stains and wear and tear that comes from being old. I don't think it is 100 years old, but it's old enough that the patina looks real, it's definitely NOT a faux patina. Whether or not this banner has any historical significance is beyond my scope of knowledge. I bought it years ago, because it was just so damn cool looking. Regardless of collector value or whatever, it's got the look. I could totally see this in a bar or a music venue somewhere. I have enjoyed looking at hanging up in my shop for long enough. It's time to pass it on. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have.
