Description: This charming "Cadbury's" "Penny Assorted Chocolate" box is in "as found" condition. It would have been used to transport "Cadbury's Penny Assorted Chocolate" to the shop keeper and then used to display the contents on the counter. This box held 4lb of Penny Assorted chocolates. In 1824, John Cadbury opened a grocer’s shop at 93 Bull Street, Birmingham. In 1866 the launch of 'Cadbury Cocoa Essence', helped increase sales dramatically and transformed a small business into a worldwide company. Cadbury's Dairy Milk was launched in 1915 and is still one of the most popular chocolate bars in the U.K. The box is made from pine with an original label to the front and the inside of the lid. Both of the labels have retained a good depth of colour, however, the label to the front has some missing pieces of paper and tears in places, there is also a few paint spots. The label to the inside of the lid has a piece of paper to the bottom and there is some creasing and small tears in places. The images of the young girl to the front and inside labels are different. The stylish impressed black impressed lettering to the back and sides of the box is still clear and legible. The lid is well attached with its' original wire hinges. The wood has taken on a super depth of colour and patina over the years and has the usual marks, scuffs and scratches you would associate with well used items of this age. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. The box measures 24.5 cm (9 3/4 inches) long and is 20 cm (8 inches) wide. It is 8.5 cm (3 1/4 inches) deep. This will make a great small storage box for any part of the house. Please be aware that customs or import duties may apply.
