Vintage c1880 Large Leather Illustrated HOLY BIBLE & Dictionary Tidgwell Family

Description: The Holy Bible: with the Apocrypha, Psalms in Metre, and Marginal References and Readings, and Brown's Complete Concordance to the Holy Scriptures; to which are added A Pictorial History of the Books of the Bible, by Rev. Washington E. Erben, the improved Pictorial Dictionary of the Bible, by Rev. Alfred Nevin, and the illustrated Christian Denominations of the World: Their Doctrines, Government and History, by Rev. Clement M. Butler, together with Blackwood's Concise Treatise... on the Value of the Word of God; A History of the Translations into English, Tables of the Parables, Miracles and Discourses of Jesus Christ, and a Variety of Useful and Valuable Tabular and Other Historical and Explanatory Matter. "With several hundred engravings, maps and plans, on wood and steel." Published circa 1880 by John E. Potter and Company, Philadelphia. This large (10 X 12 X 3.5 in.) hardcover Bible in full leather binding has a gilt emblem of Jesus on the front board; a banded, gilt-decorated spine; marbled endpapers, and many black and white illustrations (and a couple of color decorated pages). It contains the Old and New Testaments (a total of 754 pages), the Apocrypha (104 pages, in between the OT and NT), Erben's History (24 pages), Butler's Christian Denominations (64 pages), Treatise on the Evidences of God (6 pages), Nevin's Dictionary (80 pages), Cities of the Bible (96 pages), plus an index and appendices, including the Concordance, in the back. Good, not very good, condition. Complete and securely bound. The front inner hinge was broke and repaired, with good, but imperfect results -- tears remain. The leather is rubbed/scuffed, mostly along its edges, but it was treated with a leather preservative so there's only a little shedding at this point. Board corners are rubbed through. There are previous owner's inscriptions (Tidgwell and Burzees families) on the front endpapers and title page, and small pencil marks were erased from several pages, otherwise it's unmarked, with occasional oxidation stains. A couple dozen pages have edge tears (including the last 3 leaves), mostly very small, a couple of which were repaired, and the Family Photographs section in the back is worn and torn in places. The tissue guards are wrinkled and torn, as well. Enclosed are about a dozen photos, presumably of the Tidgwell family, plus some genealogical notes about that family. Shipping is FREE in the USA.
