Description: VERY UNUSUAL Antique Edison GE Mazda Type 1910-20 Period Lightbulb DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....EARLY ANTIQUE Edison type lightbulb. 5" tall. The long glass central post is there and all internal wires/filaments appear completely in place and intact and tight. However, it does not appear to work. Still a great display piece in either case. Outside bulb glass is in perfect condition. The style is nice AND VERY EARLY. Looks just like the earliest style, with similar dimensions, except that it does not have the long, hand-blown glass tip. Probably made during the transition that eliminated this tip, close to 1910, but no later than 1920. "GE MAZDA" type. This is a great early bulb for display or to complete a period lamp!! I have been told that Thomas Edison said goodbye to the bulb business in 1892, when financiers forced him out of his company (Edison General Electric), and General Electric (GE) was born. In 1910 GE trademarked the word "Mazda" for tungsten-filament bulbs, and about a year later started marketing "Edison Mazda" and "National Mazda" bulbs. Therefore, the Mazda style bulbs were made in the 1910 period, mostly in their New Jersey plant. Its appearance is certainly consistent with the 1910-20 production range, both from the style, shape, and appearance of the bulb generally. A real nice, early antique lightbulb for any collection!!!
