Description: This is USGS Bulletin 1112-C, Some Geologic Features of the Pima Mining District, Pima County, Arizona. Published in 1960, this is a pretty scarce item these days. This publication consists of the 41-page book and both of the original maps. One of the maps is a full-color geologic map of a large area of the district. This uncommon publication is a detailed and in-depth study of the geology of the district, and includes information on the various formations that occur in the area, the faults that displace them, and an analysis of the timing of faulting and implications for finding mineralized formations. This is an important historical mining district that contains lots of mines, as can be seen from this list (courtesy of Midat.org): Alpha Mine (Pima group; Fries group)Arizona No. 3 Mine (Dogtown Mine)Contention Mine (North Star Mine)Copper Butte MineCopper Glance Mine (Glance Mine)Copper King MineCopper Queen MineCowboy MineCrown King & Tiger Mine groups (Sneider group; Snyder group)CWT MineDaisy MineEsperanza Mine (new)(Esperanza pit; Esperanza open pit mines; West Esperanza Mine)Esperanza Mine group (old)Costillo Mine groupHughes Mine groupMagnet-Copper Mine groupWheeler-Perry Mine groupHelmet Peak - West ofHelmet Peak areaHelmet Peak MineHigh Hill MineKeystone Mine (Golden Fleece Mine)La Coronado MineLe Roy MineLone Valley Mine group (Serasio group)Marconi Mine groupMineral Hill-Twin Buttes areaMinnie Mine (Venus group; Arizona Buttes group)New Years Eve Mine (Snyder group; Red Carbonate Mine; Amargosa Mine; Amargosa property)Olive CampPaymaster Mine group (Victoria group)Paymaster MineOlivette and Annette Mines (Olivette Mine; Olive Mine; New Olivette Mine; Corda Brothers group)Plumed Knight Mine groupProsperity Mine group (Helmet Peak group)Camden MineElsie MineTit-for-Tat MineRich Hill Mine groupSan XavierSan Xavier (Tohono O'odom) Indian ReservationMission complexNorth San Xavier pit (San Xavier North pit)San XavierSan Xavier Extension Mine (Red Oxide group; Wakefield group)San Xavier MineSan Xavier Mine areaSan XavierMission complexEisenhower Mine (Eisenhower property; Eisenhower group; Palo Verde Mine; Palo Verde copper deposit)Mineral HillMineral Hill depositMineral Hill Mines (Azurite group)Daisy shaftMission Mine (Mission underground mine)Mission pit (Mission Mine [old]; East Pima Mine)Pima Mine (Pima Open Pit Mine)San Xavier pit (San Xavier open pit; San Xavier West Mine)Senator Morgan Mine groupSierrita Mine (Sierrita Open Pit Mine)Silver Helmet MineSouth San Xavier Mine group (Gray Copper Mine; Franklin group)Twin ButtesQueen MineTwin Buttes Mine (Twin Buttes Open Pit Mine)East pitVulcan Mine groupWhitcomb Mine (Whitcomb property; Whitecomb Mine) These mines have produced an extraordinary number of minerals: Actinolite'Albite-Anorthite Series'AluniteAndraditeAnglesiteAnhydriteAnkeriteAragoniteAtacamiteAurichalciteAzuriteBassaniteBornite var: Argentiferous BorniteBrochantiteCalciteCerussiteChalcanthiteChalcociteChalcopyriteChlorargyrite'Chlorite Group'ChrysocollaConnelliteCopiapiteCopperCoquimbiteCovelliteCuprite var: ChalcotrichiteDatoliteDiopsideDolomiteEpidoteEpsomiteEuxenite-(Y)FerrimolybditeFluoriteGalena var: Argentiferous Galena'Garnet Group'GerhardtiteGrossularGypsumHedenbergiteHematite var: SpeculariteHemimorphite'Heulandite'Jarosite'Limonite'LindgreniteMagnetiteMalachiteMarcasiteMelanteriteMolybdeniteNephelineNontroniteOpal var: HyalitePlumbojarositePowellitePseudoboleitePyritePyrrhotiteQuartzRosasiteRutileSamarskite-(Y)ScheeliteSepiolite'Sericite'Smithsonite var: Dry Bone OreSphalerite var: MarmatiteStibnite'Stilbite'SulphurTennantiteTenoriteTetrahedrite var: Argentian TetrahedriteTorberniteTremoliteTurquoiseValleriiteWitheriteWollastoniteZoisite List courtesy of Mindat.org. These minerals are not nacessarily mentioned in the text. Included to show the mineral diversity of the area. This is a scarce publication on an interesting and historical mining area and it is in incredible condition given its age of nearly fifty years. There is honestly virtually no wear or damage to report! It is in that good condition. All in all it’s a very cool publication that would be a help to any collector or an asset to anyone interested in the history of this area.
