Such ministers as B. H. Hite, H. G. Rodgers, J. C. Brickey, A. D. Gurley and others preached the Pentecostal message in the early 1900's. Some biographies have been written about their lives and ministry. But we have included them in this book because their ministry had a great impact in Tennessee. Tennessee became a District in April 1949. The first officials were men of faith and wisdom. They laid a foundation for the district to build upon. It was my privilege to personally know each of these ministers whose stories are recorded in this book. It is my desire to give a brief history of them, so others can know and appreciate their work, their mission and learn a little of their lives. L. H. Benson, second superintendent, desired to preserve the history of the district and its leaders. The work was begun a few years ago by Travis Grimsley. This book is the continuation of the work he started. In 1998, Wayne Chester, District Superintendent, and Harold Jaco, Jr ., District Secretary, asked me to compile a book for this purpose. We have included biographies and autobiographies of the first officials and some of the deceased presbyters and department leaders as well as those four mentioned above. Also included are the biography of the second superintendent and the autobiography of the present superintendent. Tennessee has had only three superintendents at this time. Most of the biographies are very brief. Some are taken from books compiled by Mary Wallace.
