Some wear to extremities and top and bottom of spine. Hinges cracking in fronts and backs, and spines cracked in places. Pages age-browned around edges. Illustrated with 337 pen and ink drawings by Carl Eytel, as well as some full-page photographs. The one fold-out map is intact. George Wharton James was born in England, emigrated to the U.s. and was orgained as a Methodist minister. He was leter defrocked and reinstated. He wrote a number of books about the American Southwest. He also founded the Anti-Whispering Society as a protest against audience members who talked during performances. He was also ad advocate of oudoor nudity. Webley may have been a fellow English emigre.
