Description: This painting was inspired by the historical account written in the, Gospel of Luke, Chapter 2. Of course the infant Jesus is being held by his mother Mary, and the aged old priest, Simeon. Joseph is looking on. Joseph's heart must have been flooded and inspired by what was taking place before him. Somewhere in the background was the very old widow Anna, who never left the temple, (Since becoming a widow seven years after her marriage, presumably as a young woman). Her life was that of prayer and praise to the God of creation. The very old priest had been told by the Holy Spirit, that he would not know death until he had met the, Christ Child. It reads in part: "Then (Simeon) took He him up in his arms, and blessed God and said, V29., 'Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: V 30., For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, V31., which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; V32., A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of Thy people Israel. I'm certain that I have read this story at least a couple hundred times. Each time I am left taken aback by the grace and mercies of God. The price of salvation cost God more than can be calculated. The cost for all who come to salvation is free. There is much more to the narrative in Luke chapter 2. It is inspiring and deeply moving. I would encourage you to read it over and over.
