Description: Victor Durand Blue Iridescent Threaded Art Glass Vase. Excellent Shape & Signed Victor DURAND Blue Iridescent Threaded Art Glass Vase Signed V. Durand 1812-8 Circa 1920 Measures: Approx. 8” Tall x 3 3/4 ”Diameter(top) x 2 3/4(base) and 14" around the thickest point. This vase is a beautiful iridescent silver blue, commonly known as lustre blue. There are no chips and I found no detracting flaws in the threaded design. This background information is from Edward J. Meschi's book Durand: The Man and His Glass, The Glass Press, 1998. Any quotes and page numbers are from the book. Vineland Flint Glassworks of New Jersey, founded in 1897 by Victor Durand, Jr. and his father, began producing art glass pieces in 1924. The art glass department, known as Durand Art Glass, was referred to within the company as the "Fancy Shop." The Great Depression, combined with Durand's untimely death, caused the company to cease art glass production in 1931. Lustre or iridescent glass: "The glass was sprayed, while still hot, with a liquid containing a metallic solution that would permanently color the surface of the glass. Silvery blue, dark blue, golden yellow, and golden orange were classic lustre colors produced by Durand." (p.30) Signatures: "During the early years of production, Durand art glass was rarely signed. As the glass became more popular, it became apparent that a signature was needed, but even then most pieces remained unsigned. The small team of workers of the fancy shop were kept so busy making glass that signing was often overlooked. Only near the very end did signing become more commonplace." (p.160) Threaded, aka Spider or Spider Webbing: "The threading was not rolled into the surface of the glass, but rather left on the surface in a very delicate manner. For that reason, the threading is seldom found in perfect condition." (p.31) A great addition to any art glass vase collection! Signature info: This is one of several marks used by Durand Art Glass from the mid-1920s into the early 1930s. Most pieces produced toward the end of the 1920s through 1931 had a hand-engraved mark reading "Durand" sometimes accompanied by a shape number. Engraved marks such as these were traced with an aluminum pencil making them more legible on the glass. In addition to the mark reading "Durand" on pieces made in the late 1920s and very early 1930s, the brand name was sometimes accompanied by a large "V". The digits to each side indicate the shape number and height of the piece. So for this piece, the shape # is 1812 and it is 8 inches high. Sold as is. Please view photos and asks questions. The photos from the interior were taken with an I-phone 13 Pro with flash. No returnsWill ship with either USPS Priority mail or FEDEX (insured).
