Description: Remarkable Journeys Through Strange Lands 1818 American Indian rare Dutch book (Old Books, 19th Century Books, Dutch Books, Travel, Illustrated Books). Merkwaardige Reizen in en Door Vreemde Werelddeelen, Ingerigt Naar de Vatbaarheid der Eerst Jeugd, by J. Glatz. Published 1818, Haarlem by Francois Bohn. 217 pages. Text in Dutch. Illustrated by 3 engraved plates with original hand color [lacks one plate, vol. 2 only of 3]. Rare Dutch juvenile describing native American tribal people (historically called Indians). Original hand marbled paper covered boards. In the publishers "temporary" interim paper binding, not intended to be permanent (buyer would have had the book bound to suit his taste). Single volume of larger 3 vol. work, contents complete unto themselves. This volume contains the description of North American Indians as well as native people of the Caribbean and West Indies islands. Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition. Binding gently age worn, paper along joints split, front cover held firmly by original binding bands, remains overall attractive as an object. Text block paper is gently toned, internally still well preserved, tight, sound. Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this rare European juvenile book survives. Book Measures c. 6 1/8" H x 3 3/4" W. [B2977].
