Description: Hearld Square is a major commercial intersection in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City, formed by the intersection of Broadway, Sixth Avenue, and 34th Street. Named for the now-defunct New York Herald, a newspaper formerly headquartered there. It also gives its name to the surrounding area. The bow tie-shaped intersection consists of two named sections, Herald Square to the north (uptown) and Greeley Square to the south (downtown). This is an image of Hearld Square with Broadway on the left and the elevated train tracks running north up the Avenue of the Americas (Sixth Avenue) on the right with the, now gone, the New York Herald Building in the middle. The image is of a busy square with people on the sidewalks and crossing the street, horse drawn buggies on the street with a streetcar headed down Broadway. Private Mailing Cards were published between 1898 and 1901 and this one was postmarked 1905 in Boston Massachusetts and sent to Brockton Massachusetts. The card is in good condition with minor wear for its age. There is postal ink on the image which is otherwise clean and clear. The reverse has a neatly written address and is clean. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated. If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment......
