Description: This book was purchased by a friend of mine when she was visiting Russia in 1986 when it was still part of the Soviet Union. The title of the book translates as "WOLT MiP - Hope of the Planet" and the caption of the poster shown on the cover reads "Let's Save the Earth - Humanity!" There are 21 posters within the book that can be removed for framing. All measure 10 x 13 inches. I've photographed three of the posters as samples of the contents. They are: 1. Children on Swing over planet of sunflowers. Caption translates as "To the Children Everything Earth". 2. Young girl reaching up to giant sunflower. Caption translates as "Save Life". 3. U.S. bomber flying over peaceful sky. Caption translates as "Let's Protect MiP". Although all 21 of the posters promote "peace", and defending the environment, they are very typical of the relentless propaganda of the cold war. In them, the United States is often portrayed as the villian, similar to how the Soviet Union would have been portrayed in promulgations of the U.S. government in those years. Putting aside the politics, these posters are still timely today, particularly as global warming has become more of a threat than it ever was 40 years ago.
