Description: This listing is for a Rare Antique John Singer Sargent "Frieze Of Prophets " Print, in an antique Frame. It measures approximately ~12x48”. It is by the artist John Singer Sargent (1856 - 1925; an artist based primarily in Massachusetts, the UK, & Italy). I believe it is hand colored, but am not sure. The artwork is in three parts and housed in an antique tri-sectioned frame, which I believe to be original. The design is excellent for many rooms and a large variety of decor styles. It makes this an excellent staple piece for your collection, one your friends definitely won’t have! A great collectors item, for use display gifting or decor. It is in good condition, with no major damage. I believe the frame to be the original, and have not removed any of the 3 sections from it. It has no major spotting or areas of fading. Colors have their nice soft tones still, with only minor aging overall. No stains tears or repairs. The frame has wear from age, the hand applied finish has areas of loss & flaking. It could be repainted to a solid color or have the finish redone, but the solid wood of the frame itself is still solid underneath. On the left hand portion the work depicts the prophets Zephaniah, Joel, Obadiah, and Hosea. The center portion displays the prophets Amos, Nahum, Ezekiel, Daniel, Elijah, Moses in centre, then prophets Joshua, Jeremiah, Jonah, Isaiah, & Habakkuk. The final right hand portion shows the prophets Micah, Haggai, Malacchi, and Zechariah. In its original mural form at the Sargent Hall of the Boston Public Library; The Frieze of Prophets bands together the north end of the gallery; then wrapping along the west, north, and east walls. The prophets are a prime example of Sargent's signature portrait style with softly-rendered features and sweeping robes of black, white, and umber. Sargent traveled to the Middle East to study the vernacular of the region and to compose studies for the figures in this portion.
