Description: Petite Golden Anubias Nana (Anubias barteri “Petite Golden Nana”) is a relatively new Anubias variety that has recently been made available for the home aquarium. “Golden” Anubias varieties boast a vibrant lime green coloration that is rather unique among such plants. Unlike many plants, Petite Golden Anubias Nana attaches itself to and propagates on aquarium décor rather than growing with its roots buried in the substrate. “Petite” Anubias plants can grow to the same mass size as other similar plants of the genus, but their individual leaves are much smaller and more plentiful. Petite Golden Anubias Nana is relatively rare because it is very slow growing. It only requires low to moderate lighting and nutrient rich water, although its growth rate can be increased through CO2 injection/supplementation. It reproduces through rhizome division. If it is planted in the substrate, Petite Golden Anubias Nana should not be planted with its rhizome (roots) buried in the substrate because it will rot and recede. Instead, it can be attached to rocks, driftwood, and other decorations in the aquarium, or it can be planted on top of the substrate as long as the roots are not completely buried. It is a very durable plant that can be kept in a wide variety of water parameters. CO2 supplementation is beneficial, but not necessary for this plant. Like other Anubias varietites, Petite Golden Anubias Nana does not seem to benefit from further chemical supplementation, though it is not visibly harmed by them in a mixed plant aquarium.
