Description: First published privately in 1895 as Oscarian Epigrams in a limited quantity, then published as Oscariana in 1910 in a different format with different epigrams, (“The selection of epigrams varies entirely from that given in Oscariana 1895 and is taken with omissions from Sebastian Melmoth"), with MDCCCC.X on slipcase and the first title page as well as “1910” on second title page, this is the first impression of the British First Thus Edition of Oscariana (London, Arthur L Humphreys, 1910) by Oscar Wilde In its rare original slipcase and fold around dust wrapper over stiff thin white boards, the book is complete and in good condition, kept remarkably clean over the years within its slipcase. Binding is square and reasonably firm with no damage to gutters. Some of the pages are still uncut. Interior contents are fine with no errant marks or names; page ends at fore edges are somewhat soiled and second FFEP shows a tiny pencil erasure at top edge. The dust wrapper with title and decor is a bit soiled and faded in spots with one tiny tear to seam at crown and a short split (see photo). The white stiff paper beneath the wrapper is spotless and bright. The spine of the book is rough and browned as though the wrapper may have originally adhered to it. The slipcase with printed front panel is in good condition, better than fair, with a thin partial split along seam of rear panel spine (evidently re-glued years ago). It also has a little wear and soiling along top edge and a few old damp stains along bottom edges, one to front lower panel and a short line to rear panel. As best as I can determine, there are very few of these for sale on the WEB in original slipcases and dust wrappers. The opening bid is $99.99 with a Buy It Now far below the going rate.
