Description: This is an original June 1981 issue of Playboy Magazine (subscription edition), and it's part of an extended collection of magazines we've acquired from longtime collectors. The general condition of individual issues in this extended trove ranges from Superb (the CGC equivalent of a 9 or 10) to "reader" (a CGC 3 or 4). We are listing the issues individually, so we are able to make issue-specific notes regarding condition and content below. Please note that combined product amounts over $35 on a single order from our store get a shipping rebate. Gracing the cover of the June 1981 issue is the newly crowned Playmate of the Year, Terri Welles. Ms. Welles had already been a popular brand ambassador for Playboy for over a year, first appearing on the cover of the May 1980 issue, before officially becoming a Playmate in December, and appearing (with two other Playmates) on the January 1981 issue. This marks the final time she would appear on the cover, though (of course) there is also the obligatory pictorial on her inside. Aside from the pictorial on the PMOY, there's also one on the winners of a Playboy/United Artists "Bond Girl" contest in the run-up to the new Bond flick "For Your Eyes Only", and another installment in the recurring look at Le Roy Nieman's sketchbook. Fiction contributions this issue come from Robert Cole, Andre Dubus, and co-writers Gardner Dozois & Jack Dann. Other content includes the usual cartoons and humor, as well as an interesting article on secrets of the arms race by Asa Baber. The centerfold is Cathy Larmouth, and the interview is with baseball player Steve Garvey (decades before his experience with gubernatorial politics). The condition of this issue is, in our opinion, a solid 8 if not an outright 9. There's very littel to complain about here, condition-wise. Really, the only things we can note is a little ink transfer from the black parts of the back cover, and those little "dents" or evidences of handling you can only see when tilting a page at an angle. We would characterize the overall wear/handling as "extremely light to negligible" (please see our photos). All pages are present (including the centerfold), the binding staples are secure with no tearing around them, and there are no dog-ears, creases or folds of note. This issue still even has its original reader-reply cards… you know, the ones most people tear out immediately upon receipt. We feel this specimen would be a solid addition to any classic collection, and finding one in significantly better condition would be a difficult proposition. All our issues are shipped in protective polybag sleeves.
