United States Army National Guard Captain William Joseph Egloff was born January 30th 1886 in Staten Island, New York. William enlisted as a Private in the Army National Guard Company C. 3rd Infantry at Syracuse, New York on December 9th 1907. He was discharged October 14th 1912. He reenlisted on March 7th 1913, and was promoted to Corporal March 1st 1915. Cpl. Egloff served at Camp Whitman, New York and he was promoted to Sergeant on June 29th 1916 With the United States preparing to enter the World War, Sgt. Egloff was federalized into U.S. Army on August 5th 1917, Company C, 3rd Infantry, which was re-designated as the 108th Infantry on October 1st 1917. Egloff was promoted to 1st Sergeant on February 18th 1918. Sgt. Egloff along with the 108th Infantry shipped out to Europe in May of 1918 and was placed in the East Poperinghe Line with the rest of the 27th Division, to serve as a reserve unit. 1st Sgt. Egloff was transferred to Army Candidate School American Expeditionary Forces on July 27th 1918. He was then promoted to 2nd Lieutenant 305th Infantry on October 1st 1918. He served at Headquarters American Expeditionary Forces until April 25th 1919. After the war he was transferred back to the National Guard Reserves on June 9th 1919 and on June 20th was back with Company C.3rd Infantry. On June 1st 1921 the 3rd Infantry was re-designated the 108th Infantry. Lieutenant Egloff attended and graduated the School of Infantry in 1922. He was promoted to Captain of the 108th Infantry on July 28th 1923 and continued to served at the Headquarters until May 28th 1930 when he retired from the Army National Guard. William signed the World War II draft on April 25th 1942 and stated he worked for the Syracuse department of Public Works. United States Army National Guard Captain William Joseph Egloff passed away on September 17th 1956. He is buried at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Syracuse, New York.
