Description: DEUTSCHE BAUAUSSTELLUNGBerlin 19319.Mai-2.August A wonderful, rare Bauhaus era Cinderalla stamp advertising the landmark 1931 architecture exhibition in Berlin. The Deutsche Bauausstellung consisted of several separate, temporary exhibitions, showing the latest developments in architecture. Among the displays was Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's ‘Die Wohnung unserer Zeit’ exhibit, an attempt to draw on the 1927 Wiessenhofsiedlung to showcase a visionary domestic architectural idiom for the modern age. Unlike at Wiessenhof, the 1931 exhibition took place indoors with plans and 1:1 scale models of buildings. Walter Gropius (a full scale community lounge and plans for a steel frame apartment building), Wassily Kandinsky (a music room), Hans and Wassili Luckhardt, Marcel Breuer and Hans Poelzig (plans for a steel framed glass pavilion) were among the other modernist luminaries to also contribute designs to the Bauausstellung. In excellent unused condition, with minimal signs of age. The stamp has been printed on silvered paper which is more vibrant than it appears on the scan.
