Route 1 is the eastern seaboard's longest highway, totaling over 1700 miles between Fort Kent, Maine and Key West, Florida. the Maine segment starts almost at the top of the world at Fort Kent and continues to the Canadian border crossing points of Houlton and Calais before following the Atlantic Ocean coastline through Portland to Kittery and then into New Hampshire at Portsmouth. An original of these is very hard to come by. They were retired from the roads of Maine long ago, with most of them being destroyed and only a few examples circulating on the collector's market.
