The bulb runs on one 'D' battery inside the body of the beacon. The bulbs are also used in the Major Matt Mason Talking Command Console and run on 2 'D' batteries inside the console. One bulb is for the green panel one is for the red panel. The GE401X bulbs are a ‘heavy duty’ version of the GE401 ‘toy’ bulbs put into electronic toys by Mattel, Marx, Lionel, Buddy L, etc. since the 1950’s. They are used in the same capacity but are designed for rough service. For decades they have been used in yellow highway signal flashers.
