Description: Growing up on a farm in Missouri, Lucille daydreamed and read about Alaska. Then in 1972 she met Larry, who also had a hankering to go to Alaska, and they decided to find out what the "Last Frontier" was really like. They drove the Alcan Highway in late February 1973, the coldest time of the year, in a pickup and camper with four kids, three dogs (and five puppies born along the way), plus pulling a utility trailer. And that is how their Alaskan adventure begins. Through the years of exploring Alaska through camping, hunting, and fishing, Lucille and Larry had many exciting experiences that the author writes about. They eventually bought a small cabin on the Yentna River deep in the wilderness of southcentral Alaska and added onto it to build Rebel's Roost Lodge. A few of the stories in the book are titled: Tent Camps; Beef and Bear Hunter's Stew; Fire and Ice; Longline of Fish Bait; Outhouse Hide-Out; Hot Buns; Flying Snow Machine; and Great Races. She shares many of her photos, poems, and even a few recipes in this true to Alaska book.
