Check out my other items!Be sure to add me to your favorites list!This listing is for a Leblanc "Big Easy" Bb soprano clarinet. This is the signature series model for the famous New Orleans jazz clarinetist Pete Fountain, whose name also appears on the bell of this instrument. This is the last version of the Pete Fountain model, made shortly before Leblanc was bought out by Conn/Selmer. The Fountain model is essentially a continuation Dynamique/Dynamic lineage. These were all large bore clarinets, ideally suited for jazz players. The serial number on this one is 61320. This is a professional level instrument manufactured in France. It is made of grenadilla wood.I will mention right off the bat that this instrument did suffer two cracks, but they were expertly repaired. One of the cracks was on the barrel. It was sealed and is held tight by the barrel rings. Looking at my picture of it, it kind of looks like there is a gap, but I can assure you there is not. It was probably sealed with super glue, which has just a tiny bit of sheen that the camera flash captured. In reality, it is barely visible. The other crack was about an inch and a half long, from the top of the upper joint to the top tone hole. It was similarly sealed and also stabilized with a carbon fiber flush band. This repair is also barely noticeable unless you are really looking for it.Aside from the above, this instrument is in excellent condition. There are no chips to the tenons or tone hole chimneys. The tenon and bell rings are all tight. The key work is all operating as it should, with no visible wear, and virtually no tarnish, to the plating. The pads, though not new, are in good condition and a suction test produces a good seal. The corks are also in good shape. There is no 'wobbling' of the joints due to compressed corks. This instrument is nice and clean and plays easily from top to bottom in its current state. Of course, you might want to have it adjusted to your personal taste, but most players will find it satisfactory as is.This instrument comes in its original case. The case is in very good condition as well. The inside is clean and odor free with minimal wear and tear. There are a few minor scuffs on the exterior.
