Description: There are two cards in this listing. Both are believed to be trucks used in the development of early roads, laying rock on local roadways near Nehalem, in preparation of Highway 101. By the early 20th century, state and county governments began to invest in road construction and improvement projects along the Pacific Coast. These efforts were part of broader initiatives to develop infrastructure and promote economic development in coastal regions. Additionally, logging companies and industrial interests played a role in road development, particularly in areas where timber extraction and other natural resource industries were active. These roads often served dual purposes of facilitating transportation and supporting industrial operations. Overall, the development of what would become Highway 101 involved a combination of local, state, and private initiatives to create a more interconnected and accessible transportation network along the scenic Pacific Coast. Card condition: Light corner wear, light pencil/eraser marks on back, some light marks on both. Both cards are unposted. One is a CYKO and the other is an AZO. These are both believed to have been taken before 1918, which is prior to the overall development of Highway 101, so I believe they are for infrastructure that would set the groundwork for that project later on.
