Description: A LARGE ORIGINAL WW2 British map of "TRIPOLITANIA" detailing its vital water sources and major road network. One of the two inset maps also charts the average rainfall distribution across the region. The map was produced in September 1941 during the WESTERN DESERT CAMPAIGN from a pre-existing French sheet. It was officially retained the following month in the British War Office's GSGS Map Room, and was eventually released from the archives several decades later. Measures 133cm x 65cm. In good overall condition with some minor damage to some of the edges, but this is an incredibly rare map which would have been produced in very small numbers for official purposes.
