Description: This is a rather large Antique Adirondack pack basket from the Keene Valley - St Huberts's, NY area. It measures 20" to the top of the carved ash handle. The handle being 2" tall; the basket 18". It measures 12 x13 across the top. The basket is handmade of very thin Ash wood splints and very thin Ash is curled to form a decorative weave around the top. It was made by either an Adirondack guide, a Native American Indian or a skilled local craftsman. The very narrow, 3/4" ash splints made for a more durable and longer lasting and more attractive basket and obviously made for a much more tedious and time consuming job as compared to later baskets with 2" or wider splints. The condition is fantastic. I find only 2 spots where a small chip is in the splints and not even all the way through. The early canvas straps are also in fine condition. This basket would make a wonderful Thanksgiving or Christmas decoration but could also be used for the purpose it was made for over 100 years ago; hunting, camping, hiking, trapping, fishing, etc. Please check my feedback and purchase with confidence. Because of the heavier stress put on packages for dimensions rather than weight by UPS or USPS, local pickup is an option. I am located in the Northern Adirondacks. Shipping dimensions will be 22 x 16 x 16 with weight being 5 lbs 14 ounces.
