(The K proceeding the serial number indicates that this projector required a projection filter, a compensator, and a special Kodacolor aluminum screen to project Kodak’s then-new Kodacolor color movie film.) It includes its original projection lens, power cord, carrying case, a Kodak 400’ take up reel, and original key to the carrying case. In 1923, Kodak introduced 16mm reversal film on a cellulose acetate (safety) base which allowed amateurs to film and show their own movies. In addition to a 16mm camera, Kodak produced a 16mm projector for showing 16mm movies and which it referred to as a Kodascope. Kodak’s first 16mm projector, which it later designated as the Kodascope Model A, was a very heavy duty, complex machine built more along the lines of a professional 35mm theater projector. (Within a few years, newer, smaller, and less complicated projectors were being produced by Kodak and other manufacturers. But this was the one that started it all. This nice example comes from a non-smoking household and is being sold “as is.” We have not attempted to plug it in and turn it on, but it appears to be complete, and it shouldn’t take too much effort to restore it to a museum quality display piece that looks like it just left the factory.
