Description: Description - Food recipes, six, Georgian antique, handwritten in the United Kingdom probably by the Cook or Lady of a household, in about 1790, & displayed in a pair of more modern frames (photographs 1 to 10). The six recipes have each been handwritten in black ink on an original white piece of paper, of varying sizes, probably by the Cook or Lady of a Georgian household (photographs 1 to 9). The recipes are written in the English of the period, with some of the individual letters & spelling of the words being difficult to comprehend (photographs 4 to 9). The recipes are displayed within a pair of more modern frames, two in one frame, & four in the other (photographs 1 to 3). The recipe at the top of the frame containing two recipes is 'To make a Calfes foot pudding' (photographs 2 & 4), while the recipe below is 'To pressure Apricots that are ripe' (photographs 2 & 5). The recipe at the top of the frame containing four recipes is probably 'To Roseist apik' (photographs 3 & 6), the second highest recipe 'To make Cheis cakes' (photographs 3 & 7), the third highest recipe 'a pudding for a Hare' (photographs 3 & 8), & the fourth recipe 'To make German Puffs' (photographs 3 & 9). Each of the six recipes describes the ingredients required, & the procedure to follow in order to make the food (photographs 4 to 9). The six recipes have more recently been attached to two pieces of white rectangular background paper, two of the recipes on one piece of paper, & four on the other (photographs 1 to 3). The recipes & their background paper are contained within a pair of more modern thin rectangular wooden frames, behind display glass (photographs photographs 1 to 3). The frames are black with gold coloured decorative gilding around their front interior & exterior perimeters (photographs 2 & 3). Yellow / brown tape & thin nails have been used to attach a brown piece of rectangular paper across the back of each frame (photograph 10). A green picture hanging wire is attached to the back of each frame by two thin nails, situated near the top on either side (photograph 10). Condition - The recipes in the frame of two recipes are only still attached to their rectangular white background paper at certain points, & can rotate when the frame is handled (photographs 2 & 4). The black ink used for writing the recipes has discoloured over time & now appears as mid-brown (photographs 4 to 9). The white original pieces of paper on which the six recipes are written include numerous areas of light brown foxing, especially along the perimeter edges & fold creases (photographs 2 to 9). Some of these perimeter edges are perforated, while fold creases are visible on all six pieces of paper (photographs 4 to 9). The two pieces of more recent white background paper on which the six recipes are attached, include small marks & areas of light brown foxing (photographs 4 to 9). The display glass for the frame with four recipes can move up & down slightly (photograph 3). The pair of black frames include small dents predominantly at the corners, numerous small marks & cracks, & small areas where the decorative gilding has worn (photographs 2 & 3). The yellow / brown tape holding the brown paper over the back of each frame has unstuck & torn in certain areas (photograph 10). However, generally the six recipes are in good condition when considering their age & previous use, as are their pair of more modern frames (photographs 1 to 10). Dimensions - The height of the frame containing two recipes is 34 cm, the width 26 cm, & the depth 2.1 cm (left of photograph 1 & photograph 2). The height of the frame containing four recipes is 34.5 cm, the width 26.5 cm, & the depth 2 cm (right of photograph 1 & photograph 3). The total weight of the pair of frames & their six recipes is 1.074 kg (photograph 1).
