The Fighting Illini won two Big Ten titles in the underlined Illinois helmets, first in 1990 then again in 2001, and played in the 2002 Sugar Bowl and 2008 Rose Bowl with the helmets. First-Team All-Americans to wear the underlined Illinois helmets included College Football Hall of Famer DT Moe Gardner (1989, 1990), LB Darrick Brownlow (1990), G Tim Simpson (1991), College Football Hall of Famer LB Dana Howard (1993, 1994), LB Simeon Rice (1994, 1995), LB Kevin Hardy (1995), LB J Leman (2007), G Martin O'Donnell (2007), and DE Whitney Mercilus (2011).
