Description: Great Battles - The Battle of the Atlantic " width="100%" height="90" border="0"> Great Battles - The Battle of the Atlantic DVD Video Description Loose Cannon is proud to preserve the USA's military history via its unique DVD film collections. Using a combination of U.S. Dept. of Defense archive films, combat footage, and period newsreels of the time, each film features actual wartime footage and or first-person accounts from those that were there. This disc focuses on the Battle of the Atlantic; the European Allies (England & Russia) fight for survival against the German U-boats of WWII. It was the longest continuous military campaign in World War II, running from 1939 to the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945. After the Fall of Western Europe to Hitler, England (and later Russia) survival was held in the balance by U.S. Lend lease military shipments and desperately need food aid. It involved thousands of ships in more than 100 convoy battles and perhaps 1,000 single-ship encounters, in a theatre covering millions of square miles of ocean. The situation changed constantly, with one side or the other gaining advantage, as participating countries surrendered, joined and even changed sides in the war, and as new weapons, tactics, counter-measures and equipment were developed by both sides. The Allies gradually gained the upper hand. This DVD contains the following 7 movies: - Battle of the Atlantic The film, ‘Battle of the Atlantic’ is presented by 20th Century Fox and made in 1941.
