Description: U.S. Route 70 is an east–west United States highway that runs for 2,385 miles from eastern North Carolina to east-central Arizona. It is a major east–west highway of the Southern and Southwestern United States. Before the completion of the Interstate system, U.S. Highway 70 was sometimes referred to as the "Broadway of America", due to its status as one of the main east–west thoroughfares in the nation. It was also promoted as the "Treasure Trail" by the U.S. Highway 70 Association as of 1951. Carl’s Court was one of the motels and cafes that lined the roads in the “Golden Age of Automobiles”, when the car became prevalent for families to travel the country. Anyone who grew up in the 40s and 50s will have found memories of being on the road and stopping at any roadside burger joint /café for lunch and dinner and a motel every night. Then early on the road and another café for breakfast. It was a great era. There is not any information on Carls anywhere, but it is captured on this card. It was published by “MWM”, “Midwest Map Co.”, a printer and publisher of maps and postcards. They are known for their many comic linen cards. The officially changed their name to “MWM Color Press” and later merged with Dexter Press in 1980 and became “MWM Dexter.” The card is in good condition with minor wear and a clean, clear image and reverse. The colors on the images are a more neutral B&W than the scanUnless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated.
