No markings, stains, tears, smudges, foxing, or wrinkles. Hinge is split at colophon page, though pages remain intact. Bookplate belonging to Clifford Nickels Carver affixed to pastedown. Inscribed on the front endpaper by Lincoln Colcord to his first wife's nephew, Clifford Nickels Carver. Carver was a renowned rare book collector and bookplate collector who authored "Book-Plates of Well Known Americans" in 1911. Carver also worked as secretary to numerous American ambassadors during Woodrow Wilson's presidency. Colcord was a famous American author and journalist who wrote during Wilson's presidency. He collaborated on the translation of Rolvaag's work, and wrote the introduction to this edition. Stated presentation edition to colophon. Hand numbered copy 54 of only 100 scarce copies, and signed by O.E. Rolvaag to colophon. A unique, historic signed first edition copy - one of only 100 copies.
