When GEORGE HERBERT WALKER BUSH was inaugurated as the 41st U.S. President in 1989, he had, perhaps, the most impressive rsum of anyone entering the White House: awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three air medals in WWII, Congressman (1967-1971), U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (1971-1972), Chairman of the Republican National Committee (1973-1974), first Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office in Beijing, China (1974-1975), Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (1976-1977) and Vice President (1981-1989). In his private life, Bush, the father of 43rd U.S. President George Walker Bush, co-founded Zapata Petroleum and founded Zapata Off-Shore Co., serving as Chairman of the Board and CEO. JAMES HAROLD WILSON (1916-1995) was British Prime Minister from 1964-1970 and 1974-1976. Wilson, who entered Parliament in 1945, became a member of the Cabinet as President of the Board of Trade (1947-1951). During the 1950s, he was the Labor Party's spokesman for foreign affairs and finance, although his terms as Prime Minister were hampered by financial woes. Wilson was made a life peer by Queen Elizabeth II and entered the House of Lords in 1983. JAMES CALLAGHAN was Foreign Secretary in the Labor Government of Harold Wilson, renegotiating the terms of Britain's EC membership. He served as Prime Minister 1976-1979. Sir ALEXANDER DOUGLAS-HOME (1903-1995) entered the British Parliament as a Conservative in 1931. A member of several Cabinets, he served as Prime Minister from 1963-1964.
