Description: This is a rare December 15th, 1925 program (playbill) from the two-night, Post-Broadway engagement of the Sixth Annual Edition of the musical revue "GEORGE WHITE'S SCANDALS" at the Plaza Theatre in St. Petersburg, Florida. (The Sixth Edition opened June 30th, 1924 at the Apollo Theatre in New York City and ran for 196 performances before going on the road.) ..... This series of revues, produced by White from 1919 through 1939, were given to elaborate show numbers much like the "Ziegfeld Follies", but were less ornate and cumbersome. Their comedy tended to be far more topical and, because White had been a dancer, the productions were fast paced and featured better choreography and music than similar revues. The scenery and curtains for this, the sixth edition of the "Scandals" were designed by ERTE and the musical score was written by GEORGE GERSHWIN and included the Gershwin standard "Somebody Loves Me" ..... The cast included NYRA BROWN, the LEELAND SISTERS, JENE DeNARDO and JOHN HOLDER, FREDDIE LIGHTNER, WILMA VIVIENNE, ACE BROWN, JACK KIMM, ELWOOD BROWN, ERNIE DeVON, PAUL LANDRON, MINNIE MILLS, JOHNNIE GETZ, GEORGE WAYNE, FAY MACK, CHARLES ROSS, MARIE COOK, BETTY GOSS, WALTER MEANS, BILLIE FANNING, GERTRUDE McMAHANN, JEANETTE BROWN, PEGGY LUMPKIN, IRENE PORTER and the GEORGE WHITE BEAUTY CHORUS ..... CREDITS: Music by GEORGE GERSHWIN ("Girl Crazy", "Lady, Be Good!", "Oh, Kay!", "Funny Face", "Rosalie", "Of Thee I Sing", "Porgy and Bess", "George White's Scandals"); Book by WILLIAM K. WELLS and GEORGE WHITE; Lyrics by B. C. DeSYLVA; Additional Lyrics by NYRA BROWN; Costumes and Curtains made in Paris by MAX WELDY from designs by ERTE; Conceived, Produced and Directed by GEORGE WHITE ..... DETAILS: The three panel, bi-fold playbill measures 4" X 10 3/8" inches (12" X 10 3/8" inches when opened) and includes full production credits, cast list, scenes and musical numbers, but no cast photos or bios. The backside is blank ..... CONDITION: With the exception of the name of the city written at the top of the first panel, moderate creasing, slight discoloration and minor edge wear, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
