LINDPAINTNER, EUGEN SCHAUBLE, BRUNO POELKE, and OSKAR FINK These six Germans, all significant aviation pioneers, signed this envelope that celebrates the 60th anniversary of the British Central Flying School Commemorative Envelope Signed: “Friedrich Karl V. KoenigWarthausen”, “Adolf Fischer/LZ 129-130”, “O.E. Lindpaintner”, “E. Schlaube/LZ 127-129-130”, “Bruno Poelke Flugpionler”, and “Oscar Fink/LZ 127+130”. 6x4. Color printed image of the Gloster Gamecock, a fighter plane used by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) from 1926-1931. Unsigned photographs of the aviators and various aircraft inside. This envelope commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Central Flying School, which is still active today. The current headquarters of the CFS is in Cranwell, Lincolnshire, England. Friedrich Karl Von Koenig-Warthausen (1906-1986) was the first person to fly around the world on a solo flight, a feat he accomplished in 1928-1929. Upon the completion of his incredible journey, he was awarded the Hindenburg Cup, an aviation prize. Adolf Fischer (b. 1905) was a mechanical engineer who specialized in aircraft, particularly zeppelins. He, along with fellow signer Eugen Schauble, were on LZ 129, commonly known as the Hindenburg, when it infamously fell from the sky on May 6, 1937. Both men survived and Fischer went on to serve in WWII as an aviation mechanic. Eugen Schauble was an engineer who also went on to serve in WWII. Otto E. Lindpaintner (1885-1976) was an aviator who participated in flying competitions for many years. He won numerous awards from 1910-1914 for his feats, including the Silver Oktoberfest medal. After retiring from the sport in 1914, he became a racecar driver and a doctor. Bruno Poelke (1883-1975) was an aviator and inventor who improved motor and engine systems for airplanes and helicopters. Oskar Fink was a German aviator who made dozens of trips to South America on board the LZ 127 zeppelin. He later travelled on the LZ 130. Adhesive stain in bottom right corner. Corners slightly worn.
