Details of the artist: Frances Shepard Houghton, the daughter of Albert and Ava Shepard was born May 17, 1921, in Farmington, Ky.Frances attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., where her roommate, Joan Houghton Williams, introduced her to her brother, Deemer Houghton. Fran and Deemer were married Oct. 19, 1940, and spent their lives in the town they loved: Red Oak, IA. Fran was involved in the community with PEO Chapter HB, First Congregational United Church of Christ and Montgomery County Historical Society, all of Red Oak. She was also an avid golfer, tennis enthusiast, rose garden specialist and a passionate watercolorist. Painting rural Iowa settings, vacation spots, and florals brought her much joy.
