Description: This is a fire alarm box that is empty inside except for the surface-mounted lock, which does not have a key, and a spring-loaded lever. It is otherwise in excellent shape. I believe the was repainted at some point. There are minor chips in the paint. The brass or bronze fittings -- hinges, internal lever, and lock are in excellent condition, and were never painted. A brass or bronze plaque lists patent dates, the last of which is 660,620 was granted in 1900 to F.W. Cole, for a "Non-Interference Signal Box. The earliest patent listed was granted to G.F. Milliken and H.B. Lyle in 1888, for an Electrical Auxiliary Signaling System. The box is approximately 9 1/2'' tall, 6 1/4'' wide, and 3 1/8'' deep.
