Originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, this cactus species has globular stems with silvery white spines up to 5 cm long, and dense wool and bristles at the areoles. The stems divide dichotomously, forming large clusters. Yellow flowers bloom in a ring on the crown of the plant, typically in spring to summer. This cactus is easy to cultivate and makes an interesting specimen for any collector. Use a well-drained soil mix, water thoroughly, then allow to dry before watering again. Place out of doors in full sunshine or shade. Indoors place near a brightly lit window. Avoid overwatering. I keep mine indoors near a brightly lighted window and water about once a month.
