They have a meaty texture. These mushrooms are a highly desired ingredient among chefs and mushroom enthusiasts. How to rehydrate: Dried morels are easy to rehydrate. Simply put the amount you want to use in a bowl and cover with water. Let sit until the morels are soft and pliable, about 2-4 hours. Reserve the soaking liquid to use in the dish you're cooking, or use as a jump-start to making vegetarian broth if you like. Please note: there will be a lot of debris in the bowl- this is normal! You can strain the liquid with a coffee filter to reserve for later use. I like to slice the mushrooms in halves and rinse to remove any remaining debris Allow the mushrooms to air dry a bit after the rinse before cooking by placing in a colander or lay out on a few paper towels How to cook: Many recipes out there on the internet but I will share our top 2 that we use 1. Sautéed mushrooms in butter and garlic- add to steak or on the side of just about anything 2. Home style beef stroganoff - cook the stroganoff as you normally do - if you have not made the sauce with a dash of wine now is the time! Adding lightly sautéed morels (adding wine and garlic during sautee as a variation) to the sauce near the end of cooking will make this average meal spectacular! Our family has hunted mushrooms for over 35 years , some years (2021) we were unable to find enough to dry due to local droughts and fire. We are pleased to have a decent crop this year !
