Description: First three images show stock plant flowering in a cool greenhouse in northern California during May 2024, and a plant in a private garden in Guatemala a decade earlier. Last two images show stems offered for sale, freshly cut and dusted with a rooting hormone. Stems are easy to root in moist perlite or pumice. Please note that cuttings are sold individually, so price shown is per single stem. Disocactus (nelsonii) hondurensis is a very rare, localized epiphytic and lithophytic cactus from west-central Honduras. Despite its current taxonomic status, that has it treated as a subspecies ot the Chiapan and west Guatemalan D. nelsonii, the considerable distance and different ecosystems that separate these plants, coupled with some differences in plant characters, suggests it is a good standalone species. The clone is from the vicinity of Lago Yojoa on the boundary the Departments of Santa Barbara and Comayagua. Unusual for cacti in this group since it inhabits fairly low elevation, wet tropical rainforest. An extreme rarity in nature and cultivation and spectacular in bloom. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
