Description: DATING TO THE 1860’S FASHIONED OF AN UNUSUAL PURPLE OMBRE SILK TAFFETA WITH AN ALMOST FLORAL TO THE PATTERN. ONE PIECE IN CONSTRUCTION. THE SLEEVES ARE SET OFF THE SHOULDER WITH PIPED SEAMS AND ARE BISHOP IN STYLE WITH A SMALL PLEATING ON THE INNER ELBOW. SILK VELVET RIBBON GIVES THE APPEARANCE OF AN EPAULET WITH A MATCHING VELVET TRIMMING THE BOTTOM CUFFS. THERE IS A POCKET HIDDEN AT THE SEAM. INNER BODICE IS LINED IN COTTON AND IS FULLY HAND SEWN THROUGHOUT WITH GLASS ROUND SHOE BUTTON CLOSURE. BOTTOM HEM IS BOUND IN PURPLE WOOL WITH THE INNER SKIRTING LINED IN A GLAZED COTTON. CONDITION: THERE IS AN L SHAPED TEAR ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT REAR HEM WITH TWO HOLES ON THE HEM TOWARDS THE BACK. INNER GLAZED COTTON IS BREAKING ALL ALONG THE BOTTOM EDGE HEM WITH SMALL FRAYS AND ABSENCE TO THE BOTTOM WOOL BINDING. THE TOP HAS A YELLOW DRIP STAIN ON THE MIDDLE RIGHT BUST WITH SOME SMALL STAINS AROUND THE GLASS BUTTONS THAT ARE UNSEEN WHEN THE DRESS IS BUTTONED UP AND I BELIEVE THAT THE STAINS WERE CAUSED FROM THE FABRIC REACTING TO THE GLASS. UNDERARMS HAVE A DARKENED STAINING BENEATH EACH BUT IS NOT READILY NOTED. A VERY BEAUTIFUL AND UNUSUAL PRINT 1860’S GOWN.
