Description: A flambé glazed porcelain vase by Brother Thomas Bezanson (1929-2007). A Benedictine monk of the Weston Priory in Vermont, he was strongly influenced by Chinese and Japanese pottery making and incorporated the Buddhist traditions of compassion into his monastic life. Brother Thomas’ work was highly regarded among his fellow ceramicists but reached a peak among art collectors when it was purchased by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian and several other major institutions for their permanent collections in the 1960s and 70s.
