Description: FOR YOUR CONSIDERATIONWE OFFER THIS ANTIQUE TRANSFERWARE TUREEN. THE BACK STAMP IS J D & CO. AND THE PATTERN NAME 'WARWICK'. JD IS JOHN DIMMOCK & CO., ALBION WORKS, STOKE-ON-TRENT, ENGLAND. THE STAMP IS 1862-1868. TRANSFERWARE WAS DEVELOPED IN ENGLAND AND BECAME A VERY POPULAR STYLE IN THE AESTHETIC MOVEMENT. THE TUREEN IS CREAM AND BROWN. PICTURES ON THE LID DEPICT SCENES AROUND WARWICK CASTLE. THE BODY OF THE TUREEN IS DECORATED IN GEOMETRIC PATTERNS. THERE IS A HAIRLINE ON THE BASE WHICH DOES NOT SHOW ON THE INSIDE. THE INSIDE DOES HAVE CRAZING AND DISCOLORATION, WHICH IS A SHAME BUT IT IS STILL A VERY IMPRESSIVE PIECE OF TRANSFERWARE. FROM WHAT I READ ABOUT DISCOLORATION, TRYING TO REMOVE IT CAN INVOLVE HARSH CHEMICALS AND IT'S STILL NOT CLEAR TO ME WHETHER THE DARK AREAS ARE HARMFUL ( IF YOU USE THE PIECE), IF LEFT UNTREATED. THE TUREEN IS QUITE HEAVY--5 1/2 LBS. WITH LID, IT STANDS 6 3/8" AND FROM HANDLE TO HANDLE IS 13". WIDTH IS 8". THANKS FOR SHOPPING WITH US!
