Description: A beautiful circa 1810's-20's Spode blue transfer pearlware glazed plate by Spode, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. This is from the Indian Sporting Series and the view is "Death of the Bear." The view name is marked on the back. "SPODE" is marked in blue along with an impressed "SPODE 28." The main scene shows hunters on elephant and horseback with spears. Dogs are corralling a bear. The border has tigers, bears, birds and hogs, etc. Measures just under 10" across and 7/8" deep. Condition: Overall the plate is in good shape with just a couple very minor issues. There is a shallow 1/16" nick in the glaze along the outer edge of the front rim. There are a handful of utensil marks seen when tilted in light and a little extra speck of pottery on the surface near the tree at the upper right side of the interior. There are a couple tiny fleabites/rubs along the back side of the rim that are insignificant. The color is strong and the glaze is shiny with no discoloration and no crazing.
