Antique, very rare, late 19th century antique decoratively bound in leather NYC Fire Department book in overall very good condition. Gold gilded and embossed text and design to the front cover and spine is well intact and the gold gilded outer fore edges of the pages are well intact. Exterior of the book is overall very clean with some rubbing to the outer edges of the boards and spine and also chipping to the upper edge of the spine. Front and back hinges have some splitting to the leather. The splitting to the front cover hinge being superficial to only the leather but the back hinge split going all the way through from the upper margin down about 3 inches or so. Interior of the book is overall clean with some occasional and margin soiling spots. First few front endpages of the book show tearing and an old gift inscription. Title page has marginal tatters. Book's binding is tight and well intact and the book is complete with all pages present and none coming loose, detached or missing. Book has a slight odor of nicotine, as if someone was smoking while reading it many years ago. Good should be handled with care as it is well over a century and a quarter old. Book totals 478 pages followed by dozens of pages of period advertisements. Book measures approximately 10 1/2 x 8 1/4 x 1 7/8 inches and weighs about 4 1/2 pounds.
