Description: ANTIQUE (1937) PENCIL AND INK DRAWING OF CORNISH HARBOR SCENE BY L.R. SIMPSON. For sale is a pen and ink drawing I found interleaved in a 1930s folio book on the history of local sea commerce in Cornwall while on holiday in Liskeard, Cornwall about 4 years ago. The artwork is signed by L.R. Simpson. I did some research and found an artist based in Truro named Leah R. Simpson who worked from 1926 to 1940 and made a living making plein-air drawings of small Cornish villages for tourists. The artwork itself has quite some loss of material as witnessed in the above photos and someone attempted to do some amateur conservation work by piecing parts of it together with adhesive tape. With that said, the image is quite lovely, and with a gentle hand, a good eye, and some patience, the piece could be reworked and make a nice addition to someone's collection. Approximately 9 x 12 inches.
