Description: 10+ Acacia terminalis seeds and growing guide included with every order.Be sure to scarify seeds before planting them.Acacia terminalis"Sunshine Wattle"Native to Australia.Acacia terminalis is a versatile ornamental plant that can be grown as an open shrub or a small tree. It is known for its deep red branches, dark green pinnate leaves, and bright white or yellow ball-shaped flowers, which bloom in the autumn and winter. The plant is tolerant of a wide range of soil types and can be grown both in coastal and inland regions. It is currently being tested for use in Pacific Northwest gardening, though needs to be kept indoors or in a greenhouse for the first 1-2 winters of its life. It prefers partial shade or full sun and is frost-tolerant down to 17-24°F. As a small specimen tree, Acacia terminalis is very attractive and can be pruned to shape as desired.Acacia Terminalis may produce edible seeds, gum for projects and can be used in apiculture(beekeeping/honey) during the autumn and winter though is not the best source of pollen in contrast to more important apicultural wattles like A. baileyana or A. dealbata. Indigenous Australians have used the seeds of A. Terminalis for food similar to other species that are used in bread making. Seeds are pounded into powder or ground into flour and incorporated in different foods. The nectars secreted from Acacia Terminalis feed many small birds in Australia including the Brown Thornbill, Eastern Spinebill, Gang-Gang Cockatoo and Striated Thornbill. A specialized gland on the petiole(leaf stem) is the source of this nectar secretion and the nectar is a fair source of sugars and amino acids. When birds feed on the nectar of A. terminalis, they rub against flowers and transfer pollen to other Sunshine Wattles which aids in pollination and seed production in this species. The birds and the trees trade resources as there are not many insect pollinators in the Autumn when A. Terminalis usually flowers and the birds get a useful energy source of nutrient rich food from these trees when not many other plants are flowering. A. terminalis subsp. terminalis is e-n-d-a-n-g-e-r-e-d in Australia, but the other varieties are not threatened currently.Characteristics: Small shrub 2.5 m spread 2 mErect slender supple stem with angular branches and an open textured crown.
